3 Things Your Bridal MUA Wants You Yo Know

If you’re reading this and you’re a bride there are a few things that I want you to know.

You can’t mess with your skin or face right before your wedding.

If you’re thinking of having any skin treatments or permanent makeup done for your wedding, test it out a minimum of 3-6 months out. You don’t know how your skin is going to react.  What if something goes wrong and it doesn’t look the way you expected it to? Or worse, you have some sort of allergic reaction and are unable to wear makeup…absolutely not!

Even tanning too much can also be an issue on your wedding day. What if your tan lines are too dark and noticeable in photos? Unless your photographer edits it, it could end up looking real funny. (they hate extra work like that by the way)

If you want your skin to look it’s best on your wedding day then I suggest seeing a dermatologist one year before the wedding so they can help you tailor a skin care routine that you can keep. I’m not a dermatologist so definitely seek a professional to help you figure out what will work for you. And remember that consistency is key with any skin care routine.

Your bridal makeup artist and your wedding photographer are two of your most important vendors!

I often see people thousands and thousands of dollars on a wedding and then try to price shop a makeup artist.  Let me just say that if your makeup isn’t on point then you’re not going to feel like your most beautiful most confident self.  And if your photos don’t show how beautiful you looked then it would be twice as much of a waste.

All else can go wrong on your day but if you and your photos look flawless then you’ll still be happy. You can always look back at your photos and thank God that you have those beautiful memories of you and your loved ones forever. If you price shop your key vendors, your run the risk of not looking exactly how you wanted to look or not having gorgeous pictures that bring you joy when you look at them.

I don’t know how many times I had a gorgeous bridal client, waited months for the photos, and they were lackluster or disappointing when I finally got them back.  The beautiful makeup wasn’t even photographed properly. I can’t imagine how crushing that must be for a bride.

Please don’t let this be you.

Quality bridal makeup will not be cheap.

There are a lot of costs that go into a makeup service. Not only are you paying for the service itself, but you’re also paying for a makeup artists expertise, talent, supplies, and general costs of staying in business to service you. In the past few years I’ve spent about $15,000 on various hands-on classes, courses, seminars, and wedding industry conferences because I believe in my business and I choose to invest heavily in my brides and my craft.

Any time I go into Sephora I spend minimum $200 for just a couple of products for my bridal makeup kit. And the cost of running a proper business alone adds up. You need to consider all these things when creating a bridal makeup budget.

Yes, hiring a bridal makeup artist is going to cost more. But by booking a professional, you get peace of mind, professional service by a bridal expert, and an air-tight contract that will prevent any funny business on such an important day.

Well that’s it! I hope you were able to take something away from this list that will help you avoid mistakes on your wedding day.

I also wanted to share this blog I wrote on how to prepare for your bridal trial/preview because I thought you might find it helpful.

So… are you ready to book your bridal makeup artist yet?!

If you are, please visit my packages and services tab for more information and email me if you have any questions.

Best of luck future bride!

xoxo, Christine
