3 Ways To Prepare For Your Bridal Preview

Bridal previews are super important for your big day! It’s like a dry run for your wedding day makeup and it’s the perfect time to plan your look with your makeup artist before the hustle and bustle of the big day. I always get asked by brides how they should prepare for their bridal preview. Here are the top 3 things to do to prepare for yours.

#1  Wear something with a low neckline that is the same color as your dress. This will help you and the artist decide on complimentary colors to best fit your features and wedding colors.  If you wear black or any other color to your trial you will not get the full effect of the makeup. It’s also easier to color match when you have a top with a low neckline because your artist will be able to see what different tones you have on your body.  As you know melanin skin tends to have hyperpigmentation so your artist can get a better picture of the skin as a whole if you can also see the shades of your chest and shoulders.

Here’s a good example of a top you can find in different shades of white/ivory that is perfect for makeup previews.

#2 Cleanse and exfoliate your skin properly. You don’t need to wear makeup to your bridal preview but you should have clean skin ready to be worked on. Your MUA will cleanse your skin but the less products on it the better. Also, if you have dry, sometimes flaky skin you should definitely do a gentle exfoliator to remove dead skin cells and impurities.  This will prevent any flaky patches of  skin from messing with the foundation finish.

#3 Prepare reference photos. Your MUA will need some reference photos to go by.  It’s harder trying to explain what you want when you can just create an inspiration board.  If you want a specific eye look from one photo and a lip color from another photo that's fine too! Just remember that makeup will look different on everyone.  A color you see on a white woman is not going to look the same on a black woman.  So when searching for photos always add “for black skin” or “for medium brown skin” after the keywords so you can get photos of women who resemble your skin type. Pinterest is great for creating these mood boards and sending them to people.

For example, this would be a great reference photo for a bride looking for luminous skin with timeless eyes and nude lips.
